- "Designing a presentation without an audience in mind is like writing a love letter and addressing it ‘to whom it may concern’."
~ Ken Haemer, AT&T
The audience is 'king'.
A presentation can not:
- Meet its main aims
- Use appropriate visual, auditory and kinaesthetic aids
- Be pitched at the right level (knowledge base)
- Engage, inspire or call-to-action
- Hook the audience
Unless you can answer the following about your audience:
- Who are they?
- Want do they want from this presentation?
- What is their knowledge base?
- How many of them are there? - this effects; visual aids, venue arrangement, any handouts or additional information
- What is their 'hook' - what is it about your delivery that will make you stand out and give them a reason to listen to you
